Postgraduate Student Position Available for 2024 Fall

We are looking for talented and enthusiastic PhD Students interested in nanotechnology to join our team. Since the research is interdisciplinary, a background in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, and Nanofabrication is welcome. Students with strong physics background are particularly encouraged to apply.

Please send your CV and letter of application with research interest directly to Dr. Tang for consideration. Positions are available for candidates with sound backgrounds. Immediate offer is possible if a good fit can be found.

Please note that due to overwhelmed inquiries, not all inquiries can be replied. Dr. Tang will contact the candidate in the later stages of the recruitment.

For normal cases, the application is received and assessed after the application deadline (December 1st). Short-listed applicants will be informed of phone interviews or face-to-face interviews before an oral or official offer is made. We seek members with best-fit experience, skill-set, and positive research attitude for game-changing research.

An original research proposal is required for application. The applicant should write broadly about any topics in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology that are most familiar and comfortable to applicants and should be originally from the applicant. The research proposal template is recommended and can be downloaded below. Please note: as a test for the originality and creativity of the candidate, Dr. Tang will NOT provide comments and help for proposal writing in normal cases.

In most cases, the candidate will be considered for a Postgraduate Scholarship (PGS) by default with a monthly stipend of around HK$19,500. There are other schemes to enroll in, listed below. If you are also interested in applying for those schemes, please state in your application.

Special Important Note: Ph.D. training in our group requires students with highly motivated self-learning and the ability to cross-discipline to new areas. Anyone who hesitates to learn new knowledge (particularly hardcore physics and maths) will experience a hard time in study. Research is a route towards new and novel knowledge, not just learning something that already exists. Anyone who joins the group is expected to be an independent researcher facing state-of-the-art topics and responsible for the research. A risk-taking mindset is a MUST in our group. For candidates seeking a SAFE PhD, please reconsider your choice of applying to our group.

  • Dear Dr. Jinyao Tang,
I am currently an undergraduate student in the Material Science and Engineering department of Imperial College London and will have my master’s degree in the following year. Nanomaterial is one of my major courses, which is really fascinated me after learning it. This interest pursues me to further research on it.
Is the date shown in the article, which is December 1st, the deadline for applying for this position and no longer available, or could some room be given? It will be my pleasure to receive your reply.

    Best wishes.

  • Dear Dr. Tang Jin Yao

I am about to obtain my master’s degree in June next year, and I am currently studying at the Shenzhen Graduate School of Peking University. My main research interest is electrochemical properties of nanomaterials, which is not very strong relevant to your research direction, and I wonder if I have the opportunity to join your group and if there is still a place for joint training program in Guangdong Laboratory in 2024.
It would be an honor to hear from you.

    Sincerely,

    Haibin Yang

  • Also, quite some students are asking for the qualification of English score. Please submit your application and disregard the English score first. If we make an offer, it will be a conditional offer, which requires the candidate to enroll with a qualified English score, which means he/she will have time to take additional tests even after the offer is made.

  • Good Day Prof. Tang,

Please I hold a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering with a research focus on nanomedicine, nanotechnology and nanoscience. I am currently working as a Tutor and a researcher in the University for Development in Ghana. I have published several articles in high impact Journals and would be glad to join your lab to pursue my PhD studies
