Opening for 2025 is filled
We are looking for talented and enthusiastic PhD Students interested in nanotechnology to join our team. Since the research is interdisciplinary, students with research experience in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, and Nanofabrication are welcome.
Students with strong physics background are particularly encouraged to apply.
Please see the following categories before applying. Positions are available for candidates with sound backgrounds. If a good fit can be found, an immediate offer is possible.
Please note that not all can be replied to due to the overwhelming number of inquiries. Dr. Tang will contact the candidate in the later stages of the recruitment.
In normal cases, the application is received and assessed after the application deadline (December 1st). Short-listed applicants will be informed of phone interviews or face-to-face interviews before an oral or official offer is made. We seek members with the best-fit experience, skill set, and positive research attitude for game-changing research.
Important Notice to all Applicants: please read the supervision philosophy carefully before applying.
An original research proposal is required for application. The applicant should write broadly about any topics in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology that are most familiar and comfortable to applicants and should be originally from the applicant. The research proposal template is recommended and can be downloaded below. Please note: as a test for the originality and creativity of the candidate, Dr. Tang will NOT provide comments and help for proposal writing in normal cases.
In most cases, the candidate will be considered for a Postgraduate Scholarship (PGS) by default with a monthly stipend of around HK$19,500. There are other schemes to enroll in, listed below. If you are also interested in applying for those schemes, please state in your application.
Q1. I do not have qualified Standard English Test Score yet and the deadline of application is approaching, what should I do?
Answer: Submit your application on time. At the initial stage of the application, the English standard test score is optional and only considered one factor. If admitted, you will receive a conditional offer, which requires you to pass the University’s testing score requirement to enroll, which is only needed when you accept the offer.
In practice, Dr. Tang does not consider the English score an important factor.
Q2. How often Prof. Tang interview candidates regarding the potential enrollment?
Answer: The initial interview is quite rare, and I do not think it is really necessary until the offer is about to be decided for candidates. It is recommended that the candidate provide their personal interest and specific skills in the application information.
